Unity launches a new subsea variant of its Compact Shear Seal BOP

Unity has launched a new Subsea Compact Shear-Seal BOP to the market and announced its first commercial deployment to support a new customer on a 100-day, multi-well abandonment campaign in the North Sea.

In this project, the CSS will be used as a BOP safety head, providing a critical safety barrier above the subsea tree as part of the client's landing string.

The Subsea CSS is ideal for both rig-based, in-riser intervention applications and also LWI open-water riser and riserless deployment.

Developed from Unity's original, field-proven, compact and lightweight surface design, this new subsea model has been modified to allow for ease of modular interface and ensure strength and durability in the subsea environment.

Not only is this a reliable, high performing safety barrier, with a closing time of less than ten seconds (c.4s), but the CSS provides a raft of additional benefits:

✔ Cost Effective – Developed from a proven surface design and targeted at a wide market of shallow water, standard pressure abandonment and intervention applications. No additional personnel required for operation - clients can be trained in its use. Delivering project efficiency and OPEX savings and a reduction in rig/ vessel rental.
✔ Universal shear and seal capability - rods, coiled tubing, wireline, slickline, e-line.
✔ Lightweight – 50% lighter than conventional designs for reduced handling and heavy lift requirements
✔ Low risk - To personnel and the environment.
✔ Compact – 33.5″ at its widest point, suitable for both in-riser and open-water intervention with reduced equipment spread and deck space.
✔ Modular – Easily adaptable to dual ram configuration.
✔ Fast - Rapid well isolation in less than 10 seconds (approx. 4s). Shipped ready to run for faster rig up and down.
✔ Versatile - Riser or riserless subsea applications.
✔ Easy to maintain and customise - Designed for easy access to rams and seals for redress and to replace rams for varying applications.
✔ Reduced carbon footprint - Throughout manufacture, mobilisation and operation.
